Also noted for the record books: in contect, this was made almost purely out of spite towards elitist therians who insist that fictionkin can only possibly be human and not animalistic at all. :p

Out of curiosity, though I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this, would you imagine this overlapping with the term “theriomythic” to include generic creatures of myth (ie me dragons) as well as species specific to a piece of fiction (ie the indoraptor)? Not that it would eclipse theriomythic, but just curious about that because then it opens up the door to the conversation about whether or not there’s actually a line between mythkin and fictionkin or not which is a conversation I have a great interest in

i think that’s up to the user! originally, the intention was for fictionkin to use, but if a dragon or griffin or unicorn, etc, feels that the “fictional” element to fictherian fits them, they’re welcome to use it too!

So to make sure I’m following you properly: this is effectively theriomythic, but meant for fictionkind and not just ‘yeah I guess you fit’ sort of thing?

correct. and in line with wanting to make terms more open ended and about experience rather than being arbitrary labels, it's not meant to be EXCLUSIVE to fictionkin, if others find it works for them as well.

Hey, I just saw your amazing term, fictherian, for the first time, and I will say, what is your opinion on the term cladofictherian/cladofictotherian? I was honestly unsure if I should post about it, I'm not huge on coining, but I did, but this was before I knew your term, so I apologise if it sounded ignorant or anything. I just have yet to see a term that encompasses a whole fictional species in terms of therianthropy, I guess? (I'm a Charmander for instance, but also identify as all/a Pokemon in general) But if there is one already, please do tell me! Do you think fictherian works better, at all? - Alex

daski answered:

the great thing about the community is that we develop language to help everyone describe their experiences better. i coined fictherian because we were missing the word in the lexicon; i put it out there for the community to use or to abandon, and the fact that not only is it being used, it’s resonated with others, is amazing.

it’s only natural for cladofictherian to exist, as well. if it describes your experiences, i have zero reason to be upset that you thought of coining it before me. as far as i’m aware, no one else has ‘coined’ it either, and there isnt another term similar that i know of.
