i wanted to expand upon something i did a short writeup on discord about our headspace's physics, because i find it fascinating while also having realized that it might also be tied to my being a deitykin.
physics work similarly to how they do in meatspace, but with a fantasy and comedic bent. this is split into three properties, which we call "Ideal Physics", "Abiding by Expectation", and "What is (meta/)Physically Here".
Ideal Physics is very much how it sounds; imagine your ideal day, not in pain, never hungry, being able to shapeshift to however you want to look, pleasures always hit just right, etc.
we like to think that Ideal Physics is the always active property within our headspace, and we're not really incorrect; it covers a lot of things we would otherwise be unhappy about, allows us to do cartoonish actions that are unrealistic in meatspace, allows us to forget about a lot of the more negative or tedious aspects in our lives. but Ideal Physics is the default that the headspace physics falls back on. it's very easily overridden by the other two properties, and we've only really become more cognizant of that recently.
the Abiding by Expectation property is that the expectations one has of a given situation will supersede and override Ideal Physics. the most common example of this is that Knowing and Accepting that an action will be painful, will override the "never experiencing pain" phenomena that Ideal Physics usually covers. if someone isnt thinking about it, and touches a hot stove, they wont be burned, but if they are Conscious of their actions, and realize and accept that they will be burned if they touch a hot stove, the resulting consequence is that they will be burned and it will hurt. in general, we typically have ignored this in favor of benefiting from Ideal Physics, unless for some reason someone wants to savor the feeling of pain.
so, we never really acknowledged the extent of the property's scope. until Simon arrived. he arrived to us with his arm having just been ripped off, still bleeding and flesh ragged. though we immediately patched him up, over time, it never regrew, and he got used to it being missing. but no matter how much he has attempted to regrow/reshape his limb to be normal, it simply hasnt worked, despite our Ideal Physics.
we realized the Abiding by Expectation property has quite literally stopped him, because even though he has phantom limb syndrome and his brain still fires neurons toward where his arm would be, at some level of his consciousness, He Expects his arm to be missing. somehow, in the very short amount of time he had between the physical trauma and his death, his consciousness made it a part of his identity, a part of his conscious body map, so his current Expectation is that he does not have his arm.
this is not the only example of Abiding by Expectation, just the inciting incident of us realizing it was a property of our physics; previously, we'd thought it was just an actively chosen exception to the rule of Ideal Physics. it became clearer when simon asked duranos and wenduag why, if they dislike their appearances and have such trauma surrounding their nonhuman bodies, they havent tried taking on new appearances. they explained they have tried, but have only gotten small changes to stick, because how they currently look is how they Identify, how they Expect to look, and it doesnt Feel right.
the What is (meta/)Physically Here property is the process of Abiding by Expectation writing one's expectations into our reality as physics. not every instance of Abiding by Expectation rewrites physics, but Certainties, like one's sense of identity, is enough. this property also adapts physics to and for those who are Physically in our headspace, such as 14.
furthermore, as we understand it/have defined this property, it is what dictates how we and other things are defined in headspace. because we can physically interact with each other and items within our headspace, this property sets appearances, textures, sounds, smells, tastes, etc. of interactable features, based on the expectation of the interacter(s).
this, of course, has limitations. if no one in the system has an experience with an entity, the What is (meta/)Physically here cannot define it due to lack of experience. for example, if Delta (a robot with no ability to taste or smell) cooks a meal (which they do often) that Simon has not tasted before, but Daski has, the food will taste according to Daski's experience with the foods included, not Delta's (lack of) expectation (though Simon's opinion of said food may differ based on his own preference). this compounds if more than one system member has had experiences with that food, and makes a more well-rounded experience for all.
this property is also somewhat malleable and influencable. if someone imagines a phenomena hard enough, it can (but not always) trigger Abiding by Expectation to write a new law of physics into our reality. we havent had success with this for anything major (re: simon trying to regrow his arm) but for small things such as imagining how a new outfit would look on someone, it works quite well.
because this definement is so new to us, it's hard to say what is all included underneath what, but it feels intuitive to think about--at least, for me (daski). i'm a river deity. even being housed in a vessel that has limited omniscience, i have a sense of how metaphysics work after being the god of physics for a whole ecosystem. i can tell that my scope is limited, and in fact, a quote from simon's source is what really made me realize i'm the likely source of how physics Work in our headspace, as the Original: "an ignorant god views the world through a pinhole, and believes all that it sees is all that is and all that must be. and it is true, because the god perceives of it in that way and thus makes it so." (it's not a perfect quote because i need home viewing of the movie to come out but that's the correct jist of it.)
it makes me wonder if it would be possible for me to change how physics work in our headspace, or if they're truly laws because this is how i perceive of physics functioning.
